Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I schedule my appointment?
Depending on what type of session you want, you should book 2 weeks to 3 months in advance.
If you want pictures of a newborn, call before your delivery date to make an appointment. In order to get the adorable, sleepy shots, it's best to take pictures of newborns within 10 days after the little one is born. Babies older than 2 weeks are more alert and more likely to be disturbed when sleeping.
Call (402) 779-8474 or email us to find out our availability.
Do we meet before the session?
A consultation is held before all sessions to discuss your vision regarding poses, clothing and location options. This consultation can be held in person or over the phone. This helps you get to know us and our style and we can learn about you and your expectations. Remember, our sessions are tailored to your needs and personality, so in order to create the best session possible, it is better for us to talk beforehand.
After you book your session, you'll receive a portrait agreement, general price list and suggestions on what you can do to prepare for the big day.
When is my portrait session fee due?
Your session fee gets paid at the time of booking. This will guarantee you get the time and date you want.
What if I need to reschedule?
We understand that life happens. If something arises that will prevent you from making the session, please contact the studio at least 24 hours in advance. Your session fee will be applied to a rescheduled session only if 24-hour notice is given.
What can I do to prepare for the session?
If we're taking pictures of children, make sure everyone is well-rested and well-fed. If anyone isn't feeling well, it is better to reschedule. For newborns, avoid feeding them until you arrive at the studio, right before the session. This helps ensure you get pictures of a happy, sleeping baby.
If there are group shots, try to pick outfits that coordinate with each other; this doesn't mean everything has to match, just that they go well. Try to avoid big logos or loud prints, as they tend to take attention away from the star of the photos – you! A great way to bring personality into your photos is with colorful accessories.
We've also discovered kids tend to be most cooperative when they are in comfortable clothing with minimal clothing changes. So, simple clothing is better and, in the case of newborns, nothing at all.
What happens during the session?
Sessions typically last between 1 to 2 hours, depending on the type of session you need. We'll do a variety of casually-posed shots, along with plenty of candids; and we'll be sure to avoid those forced smiles. You have unlimited clothing changes and, if you have a particular pose or idea in mind, just let us know. We'll work with you to make sure you get the pictures you want.
Our goal is to make sure everyone is at ease and having fun. That's why we welcome having breaks for feedings, changings, having a snack or just to regroup; we work according to your schedule. The last thing we want is for you to feel rushed.
Where is the session held?
The location is up to you! Pictures can be taken in our studio or at the location of your choice, whether it's your home, downtown or a nearby park. We can do both indoor and outdoor shots to make sure you get a variety of pictures.
For newborns, we recommend coming to our studio. This way we can ensure the temperature is perfect for your baby and we have access to the props and backdrops that make your pictures priceless.
When will I be able to view my pictures?
About 1 week after your photo session, we'll get together so you can view all the pictures and choose the ones you like. Sorting through all the photos can be a little overwhelming at first, but no worries. We'll be there to guide you through the selection process and talk about all your options, including products and portrait sizes that would look best hanging on your wall. This is also a convenient time to place your first order.
We can get together at your home or in our studio, whichever works best for you and your schedule. Don't worry, this is a stress-free, pressure-free time that is actually fun!
When do I need to pay for my pictures?
Half the amount is due at the time of the order; the remaining half is due when we deliver the photos.
What type of payment do you accept?
We accept checks and most major credit cards, although cash is always welcome.
Do you offer packages?
We like having choices in life, and figure you do, too. That's why we don't have packages with pre-determined picture sizes and quantities. We do offer discounts if you buy certain things together or if you sign up for a series of sessions, such as “Baby's First Year.” This ensures you only get the pictures you want and nothing you don't.
Do you charge extra for black and white photos or touch-ups?
There's no extra charge for black and whites or touch-ups. If, during the creative process, we determine certain photos will look best in black and white, we will show you those options.
Minor touch-ups are always done on the photos you purchase; this includes things like smoothing out skin tones, making blemishes disappear, and removing stray hairs. We believe photos should highlight your best features, not make you look fake or unnatural.
Do I get electronic images of the photos?
You automatically receive a digital, Web version of each image you order. This can be used on Facebook or other social networks, in electronic frames, or as a screensaver for your computer.
Do you offer other services?
We pride ourselves on being your full service photographer. All photos are mounted and we provide framing and matting services. We also create custom announcements, cards, storyboards and albums... basically we are here for all your photographic needs.
